Sony 4K Camcorder Unveiled at CES 2013
At it’s CES 2013 press conference on Monday, Sony unveiled a concept model of an upcoming 4K consumer camcorder. Sony had a mock-up of this 4K camcorder under glass in their booth at CES.
While Sony referred to this camera as a consumer model, it is clear from looking at it that the camera is at least a prosumer model in terms of available features – if not a low-end pro model. [Read more…]
Canon France Teases New Camera in “Creativity with a twist” Ad
Canon France posted what appears to be a new ad campaign teaser for what looks like it could be a new video camera. Along with the above ad, Canon France posted the following message:
Soon, we will share information that will change the way you look at the world…
With CES 2013 just around the corner, we should know soon enough. Based on the way the girl is holding her hand up in the teaser ad, it seems like this should be some sort of palm-sized video camera with an articulating (or twisting) display. [Read more…]
Sony NEX-VG900 Full Frame Camcorder and NEX-VG30 APS-C Camcorder Announced
Sony has announced the NEX-VG900 and NEX-VG30 interchangeable lens camcorders. The NEX-VG900 is the first full frame camcorder to hit the market.
The NEX-VG30 is an APS-C format camcorder that comes available with an 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 power zoom lens.
Both the VG900 and VG30 capture 1080p at 24p and 60p frame rates using the AVCHD 2.0 codec. The VG900 is compatible with both E-mount and Alpha mount lenses courtesy of the included LA-EA3 adapter. When using E-mount lenses, the VG900 operates as an APS-C crop camcorder without any loss of resolution.
The NEX-VG900 has a new Multi Interface Shoe that works with a new XLR adapter kit, which allows you to connect higher-end shotgun mics.
The Sony NEX-VG900 will be available in November for $3300. Check availability here at B&H Photo.
The Sony NEX-VG30 will be available in a kit with the 18-200mm power zoom lens in November for $2700. It will also be available in a body-only version for $1800. You can order the NEX-VG30 here at B&H Photo.

Sony VG900 Full Frame Camcorder Image Leak
The Sony NEX-VG900 is expected to be announced tomorrow as a full frame camcorder with the NEX E-mount. The VG900 is rumored to include a 24MP full frame sensor and capture 1080×1920 video recording at 24p/60p courtesy of the AVCHD 2.0 codec.
While an A-mount adapter is rumored to be included with the VG900, I’m curious as to which lenses will be available with this camera given the increase in sensor size over the current NEX-VG20.
Additional rumored specs include a 3? LCD, XGA OLED EVF and price tag of $3,300.

Sony NEX-VG30 Leak Shows Off New Power Zoom Lens
Newly leaked images of the upcoming Sony NEX-VG30 show a camera that’s very similar to the current NEX-VG20 model. However, the most notable difference is the inclusion of a new power zoom lens mounted on the compact APS-C camcorder.
Based on the size of this lens and the past kit lenses for this series, I would presume that this is an 18-200mm kit lens (probably with a f/3.5-5.6 aperture as well). This could be the breakout features that turns the VG30 into a competent consumer camera. In my opinion, the manual zoom lens on the prior models was the thing keeping these out of consumers’ hands. The Sony NEX-EA50 was initially believed to be priced at $4200 with an included 18-200mm servo zoom lens. A pricing update from B&H, however, reveals that this kit will be only $3599.
Given the features available on this camcorder, I am quite impressed with the low price point. The NEX-EA50 should be available in October. You can order it here at B&H Photo.
