New rumors suggest that the Canon 5D Mark IV could get a 30MP full frame sensor. Previous rumors has slotted a 24MP or 28MP sensor in the 5D Mark III‘s replacement.
Of course, many more rumors could come and go between now and the expected August 25 announcement date. This latest info comes from a tip over at Canon Rumors, which also points out the marketing convenience of a 30MP sensor when sandwiched between the 5Ds, 1D X Mark II and 6D Mark II models. At 30MP, the camera wouldn’t step on any toes and would give other models room to grow without becoming redundant.
Does a 30MP sensor matter to you when considering a 28MP, 24MP or 22MP option?
Jared says
30MP is reasonable in my opinion.
Greg says
30MP does not matter. The 30MP would be no major incentive to purchase the Mark4. The improvements/additions which come with the Mark4 over the Mark3 matter significantly.

At 30 Mpix it will be dead on arrival with no interest here. I’m a big Canon fan with a closet full of L glass, but this is ridiculous. So Canon will have a 5DS with a 50 Mpix sensor but out of date features (WiFi is a $700 add-on, how humiliating for Canon) and no 4K video, a 5D IV with an out of date sensor, and the super expensive 1D cameras with low resolution sensors but high speed for sports and photojournalism. And absolutely nothing for me, looks like I will be hanging on to my 5D II. Sad. They should have just taken the 5DS, added 4K video and brought the features up to date. And worked on making it mirrorless to take advantage of the 50 Mpix sensor without vibration. Oh well.

I kind of agree with you Gary, I don’t see a need for 5DS and 5DIV. Just give us a 50 mpix mirrorless with the 4K video and better sealing/corrosion resistance.
MAHUDDIN RASHID says
I agree with Ian Stone. This might be the view of majority Canon fans.

Agree. Canon’s prices are ridiculously stratospheric and the functions are deep sea level compared with Sony. Give us a built in image stabilizer, a smaller version and lightweight. We went to Kenya safari with my 5D3 and 70-300 mm L lens plus tripod and a couple more lenses but we were only required 10 kilos of backpack weight. I have to suffer stuffing my multiple pockets with the other necessities to abide by the required weight

If it means improving the ISO performance and not staying the same as before while redirect public to believe by getting more MP is a great value and it’s worth to pay the extra…. sure, why not.

Good points guys!
Canon 5D got its success and growth purely on its video capabilities , but Canon Dropped the ball when they didnt upgrade to 4K and handed over its hard earned leadership to Sony on silver platter! Theyvare so worried about ID x losing its place that they sacrificed the goose with golden eggs! Very Sad very bad marketing , in my opinion their marketing team should be fired!
If Canon would add mirrorless , wifi and 4k
With few needed improvements they can wipe out all competition with just this one camera i am sure IDx numbers are far less in sales anyway due to price point!
I was a hard core canon fan and still love their glass but sold it all and went with Sony!
Wake up canon! You losing customers fast!
