Nikon has apologized for yesterday’s Facebook post, which claimed “A photographer is only as good as the equipment he uses.”
We know some of you took offense to the last post, and we apologize, as it was not our aim to insult any of our friends. Our statement was meant to be interpreted that the right equipment can help you capture amazing images. We appreciate the passion you have for photography and your gear, and know that a great picture is possible anytime and anywhere.
Kudos Nikon.

I don’t feel as if Nikon’s original statement was as outrageous as some people seem to believe. It was poorly worded to be sure, but as Thom Hogan pointed out earlier today, different jobs require different tools. Yes, a great image can be created using something as simple as a Holga. But try using that Holga to photograph wildlife in Africa, and you’ve got a slightly different story. In specialized situations, the right equipment becomes nearly as important as the skill and vision of the photographer.

Nikon’s stuff-up was double-barrelled – all the female photographers I know are NOT happy campers with Nikon’s sexist comment.

“I don’t feel as if Nikon’s original statement was as outrageous as some people seem to believe.” – IMO it was, even solely for the reason that statements like this are what CREATES dumb brand-loyal FANBOYs, and I for one hate these over anything.
