Rumors of a Canon 1D Mark IV have been floating around since not too long after the criticisms of the autofocus performance for the Canon 1D Mark III came to light. Rumors were swirling prior to the announcement of the Canon 7D that the 1D Mark IV might surface this Fall. Those rumors have since died down.
As I’m sure you are aware though, when one rumor dies, there are plenty more ready to fill in the gaps. The latest rumor is calling for a Canon 1D Mark IV announcement in early 2010 or around the “end of January” as one Canon Rumors tipster puts it.
Additionally, the spec list remains pretty consistent with past rumors:
- 16-megapixels
- 1.3x crop
- 12 fps
- 1080p video capture at 24p, 25p, 30p and 60p frame rates
The January date coincides with Canon’s non-appearance at PMA in February 2010; however, that’s not entirely consistent with Canon’s choice to make CES its big first quarter trade show appearance. Would Canon really introduce a new pro-level camera and not show it off to pro-photographers in the US? Stay tuned for the latest updates on this one.
