Sony Unveils New HDR-AS30V POV Action Camera

Sony HDR-AS30V

Sony has added the new HDR-AS30V to is action cam line-up, following the AS15 and AS10 from a year ago. The AS30V adds 1080/60p video capture as a step up for 1080/30p on the HDR-AS15.

This is also the first Sony action cam to feature GPS on board. It can capture single 11.9MP still images, as well as capturing images with interval capture mode.

The HDR-AS30V also captures 720p footage up to 120fps. A Carl Zeiss lens delivers a 170° wide-angle view, along with SteadyShot image stabilization. [Read more...]

GoPro Hero 3 Coming Soon…

With everybody else dropping new action cams (e.g., Sony, Contour, Polaroid, etc.), it’s high time GoPro brought something new to the market with features like smartphone connectivity and 120fps at 720p as found in the new Sony HDR-AS15.

Photo Rumors notes that a new GoPro Hero 3 is expected by year’s end (as a replacement for the Hero 2) and will be a slimmer model with the expected built-in WiFi.  The new Sony action cams are looking very solid thus far, so GoPro has some serious competition to step up to now…

Contour+2 Action Cam Now Available

The new Contour+2 action cam is available now.  The new camera features iOS integration, allowing you to start/stop the recording or adjust camera settings from your iPhone/iPad.  It ships will a waterproof case that lets you take the camera down to 197′ underwater.

The Contour+2 captures full HD at 24p/30p – and will even capture 854 x 480p video at 120fps; however, that’s still a far cry from Sony’s new action cams that will capture 720p HD video as 120 fps.  That said, Contour cameras’ functionality and solid GPS features (in the new Contour+2) offer a lot of value in a somewhat unique package.
