Several more images of the Olympus E-P5 have leaked out ahead of Friday’s announcement as a long-awaited replacement for the Olympus E-P3.  The camera is rumored to feature the same 16MP sensor as found in the Olympus OM-D E-M5 and is modeled after the old Olympus PEN F film camera from yesteryear. The E-P5 can also capture full HD 1080/30p video at 20Mbps bit rate and should include built-in WiFi. [click to continue…]

Olympus E-P5

After yesterday’s teaser from Olympus of a new PEN camera due out in early May, the Olympus E-P5 appears to have leaked out ahead of its official announcement. As previously rumored, it closely resembles the design of the old Olympus PEN F.

The Olympus PEN E-P5 is expected to be announced by May 11, 2013. The camera is rumored to feature the same 16MP sensor as found in the Olympus OM-D E-M5. Additional rumors suggest an improved AF speed that will best the highly-regarded E-M5.

Personally, I think this is one very attractive camera – even more so if the AF speed is as fast as rumored.

Olympus PEN Teaser Campaign 2013

Olympus’ Chinese website is teasing a silhouette of a new PEN model that it has dated for a May 11, 2013 unveiling. The Olympus E-P5 and E-PL6 were previously rumored to be next on the PEN release schedule.

The Olympus PEN E-P3 is nearly 2-years old and no longer in production, while the E-PL5 was just announced in September 2012.

Olympus E-PL5

Recent rumors suggest that Olympus will be updating its E-Px and E-PLx series soon. The next generation should carry the logical names of E-P5 and E-PL6, which obviously would serve as replacements for the E-P3 (the number ’4′ is considered bad luck in Japanese culture) and E-PL5, respectively.

Olympus PEN F

New rumors over at Photo Rumors point to an upcoming Olympus PEN Micro Four Thirds model that will follow closely to the design of the old PEN F film camera. Additional rumors suggest a built-in viewfinder, which would be a welcomed feature on the mirrorless model.

No other details on specs are being tossed around at this time; however, such a camera would presumably reside at the top of the PEN line-up while the E-PM and E-PL series rounded out the low- and mid-range PEN options. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve seen a new top-level camera in the PEN series (the E-P3 in 2011, which is now discontinued).

Reasonable expectations for a release time frame would be Summer 2013.

New leaks point to a new Olympus XZ-10 compact camera and 75-300mm Micro Four Thirds lens coming next week during the CP+ show in Japan.

The XZ-10 is rumored to be a high-end compact camera that will likely serve as a replacement or companion model to the Olympus XZ-2.

The new lens will be the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75-300mm f/4.8-6.7 II Micro Four Thirds lens that will be a 150-600mm equivalent zoom lens. The first version of this lens is already listed as discontinued.
