Someone left me a comment with a link featuring the above Nikon mirrorless camera image. I can’t say whether its an official image of the coming Nikon V1 or J1; however, it looks pretty consistent with past specs and mockups that we’ve seen. [Read more…]

Sony NEX-5n Overheating Issue is Not Really an Issue
I’ve seen some forum and blog postings about the Sony NEX-5n having an overheating issue. As you can see in the above “Overheating Test” video, it records for over 23 minutes before shutting down.
Those large CMOS sensors generate a lot of heat. And while they are great for producing bokeh-filled cinematic shots, they can’t quite replace the endless recording times of camcorders. But camcorders can’t give you the awesome bokeh you get out of the NEX-5n and its ilk (of course there are APS-C format camcorders, but they start at around $2000 and go way up from there). Nikon 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 VR Lens Patent Could Be For New Nikon Mirrorless System
A recently published patent application reveals a Nikon lens with a focal length of 10-100mm, which works out to a perfect 27-270mm equivalent focal range for Nikon’s rumored 2.7x-crop mirrorless camera.
Technically, the application calls for a 10.3-97mm focal range at f/4.7-6.1, which should round out to a lens marketed at 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 range when/if it comes out.
For what seems like a consumer-minded camera system with its smaller-than-APS-C format sensor, a 10x superzoom is almost a requirement. It should be much smaller than what we typically see on DSLRs, particularly since Nikon has done such a good job at putting a big zoom range in its recent Coolpix cameras.
For those of you who want some light weekend reading, you can check out the lens patent application here.

In addition to the NEX-5N, Sony has also introduced the LA-EA2 adapter for using Sony Alpha lenses on NEX cameras. Also, the FDA-EV1S is an electronic viewfinder for the NEX-5N.
