Canon Rumors is reporting that it is a lock that Canon will unveil new imagePROGRAF large format printers just prior to Photokina 2012 on September 12.  Moreover, the new printers should feature tech borrowed from Canon’s recent PIXMA Pro-1 printer.

Canon’s R&D group has been eating its Wheaties, as evidenced by the recent 120MP CMOS sensor and the new 8-inch CMOS sensor.  That’s the 8″ sensor above, just to the left of a 35mm sensor.

The new sensor is roughly 40 times the size of the sensor found in the 5D Mark II.  It measures 202 x 205mm, or roughly 8″ x 8″ – holy cow! Canon says that it is “capable of capturing images in one one-hundredth the amount of light required by a professional-model digital SLR camera.”

Canon has announced another new large format printer as a follow up to the recently announced imagePROGRAF iPF6000S.  The new Canon imagePROGRAF iPF6200 is a 24″ wide printer feature 12 colors of LUCIA pigment ink.  The new large format printer is currently available at a retail price of $3,495.
