Coremelt Launches TrackX, a New Motion Tracking Plugin for Final Cut Pro X

TrackX Tracking in FCP X

Coremelt has launched new motion tracking tools in the TrackX plugin for Final Cut Pro X that leans on Mocha’s¬†Academy Award-winning Planar Tracking technology to track people and objects in moving shots for compositing directly in FCP X. To track an object for compositing, just draw a shape around the object you want to track and the Mocha tracking engine will lock on and allow you to track text, do screen replacements, replace signs and more. It looks pretty freaking amazing. [Read more…]

Final Cut Pro X Background Rendering in OS X Mavericks Not Working? Turn Off App Nap.

One of the grand new features in OS X Mavericks is App Nap, which saves on power to extend battery life on MacBooks. One of the unfortunate side effects is that is kills background rendering in Final Cut Pro X and other apps that take advantage of background rendering.

To make background rendering work again, simply turn off App Nap. The process is simple.

  1. Right-click on the application.
  2. Choose Get Info.
  3. Check the box “Prevent App Nap.”
  4. Enjoy background rendering again.

Final Cut Pro X Version 10.1 Released

Final Cut Pro X

Along with the release of the new Mac Pro last week, Apple quietly released an update for Final Cut Pro X. The new 10.1 update adds a ton of new features – some of which are rather big.

Final Cut Pro X has totally changed the way that it organizes media. The new method makes use of libraries, events and projects. It offers the ability to only load the library of events that you are working on without loading all other events you have ever created. I’ve embedded a quick primer video on the new library system in FCP X below. [Read more…]

Apple Pushes Out FCP X Update w/ Sony XAVC 4K Support; Bigger Stuff Coming Soon…?

Apple has just updated Final Cut Pro X to version 10.0.8 and includes support for Sony’s XAVC codec used in its 4K cameras. The XAVC codec is used for 4K capture on the Sony F55. (Recall that I also detailed XAVC and the potential to use XQD cards to capture 4K XAVC footage in Sony’s new “consumer” 4K camcorder back at CES.) It’s a relatively minor update with additional support for the ARRI Alexa and some other fixes and improvements.

Along with the release of the FCP X update, however, Apple is nudging back at the pro market with a campaign to get us back on board the Apple video editing train. It is certainly no coincidence that NAB 2013 kicks off in a little over a week though. [Read more…]

FxFactory PRO v4 Video Effects Plug-in Review

FxFactory PRO v4

FxFactory PRO v4 is a plug-in for popular NLE editors like Final Cut Pro X, FCP 7 and Premiere Pro CS6. I have been using FxFactory PRO v4 for a few months now in both FCP X and Premier Pro CS6. While it also works in After Effects and Motion, my use has been limited to NLEs.

FxFactory PRO v4 uses the FxFactory plug-in manager for installation and updates. I have used several plug-ins with FxFactory and find it to be one of the easiest installation processes to use with NLE plug-ins. [Read more…]
