Amazon currently has a good deal on a bus-powered (i.e., it runs off the computer’s USB power) USB 3.0 external hard drive at 1TB capacity for $79.99.
Details here at Amazon. (Make sure you select the 1TB from the drop-down menu circled in the screenshot above.)
As I’ve pointed out before, USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports. I regularly use a USB 3.0 drive on both my USB 2.0 MacBook and my USB 3.0 desktop and it works like a charm.
In need of some extra storage for all those media files? Check out this deal on a 2TB external Seagate HD for $80.
If you’re still only sporting USB 2.0, you’ll be OK since USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with it too.
WiebeTech has unveiled a new portable, RAID-capable hard drive. The ToughTech Duo offers photographers the ability to configure two 2.5-inch notebook drives as a RAID 0 or RAID 1 backup drive.
The ToughTech Duo offers Firewire 800, USB 2.0 or eSATA connections. The new drive retails for $499. More details on WiebeTech’s website.
