Nikon’s stackable rebates are back with the D7100 and 8 other Nikon DSLRs, 29 lenses, 2 speedlights and 2 teleconverters all eligible for big instant rebates. These instant rebates are valid through September 28. Check them all out here at B&H Photo.
There are several Nikon instant rebates available now through May 26, 2012. Included in the rebate deals are the D3200, D7000, D3100 and D5100. On the mirrorless side, both the Nikon V1 and J1 are also available with instant rebates. Check the B&H rebate page for more details.
The Nikon D7000 has received an unnofficial firmware update that allows you to get around the lowly record time limits for video. The Nikon Hacker team now has lifted the limit to 25-30 minutes for the D3100, D5100 and D7000 cameras. Note that this is an unofficial update and not sanctioned by Nikon. use at your own risk.

An unofficial Star Wars-themed firmware for the Nikon D5100 is now available. While the firmware gives certain menu settings new names, it serves no functional purpose.
However, it does serve as a bit of encouragement for future enhancements via unofficial firmware upgrades.

These three videos from Jeff Chen Kuo Chih were captured over the period of several days in the Eastern Sierra. The foreground lighting in the third video adds an almost surreal effect to the night shots of the Milky Way.
While the Canon 5D Mark II seems to get all the attention in time lapse videos, Nikon deserves a lot of credit for the time lapse capablities of its DSLRs. Most of the recent Nikon DSLRs (excluding the very base-level models) offer a built-in intervolometer, which means you can shoot time lapse sequences right out of the box without the need to by a $150 remote as is the case with Canon time lapse work.
