Nikon D300, D300s, D700 and P7700 Firmware Updates

Nikon D700

Nikon has released firmware updates for the Nikon D300, D300s, D700 and P7700.

The firmware updates for the D300, D300s and D700 add support for the new Nikon 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR lens.

The firmware update for the Nikon Coolpix P7700 includes the following improvements:

When shooting with shooting mode set to M (manual) with Flash, and the ISO sensitivity set to Auto, ISO 80-200, ISO 80-400, or ISO 80-800, ISO sensitivity was sometimes not locked at ISO 80 and a different ISO sensitivity was sometimes applied.  This issue has been resolved.

Nikon D4 and D400 Due Next Month

In what could be the biggest camera launch of the year, one of Nikon Rumors’ sources has tipped the launch of the Nikon D4 and D400 for August.

Given the coming Sony A77 with a 24MP sensor, it is most likely that the D400 will sport the same 24MP APS-C sensor but labeled with the ubiquitous “Developed by Nikon” asterisk seen in recent Nikon pro-DSLR specs.  The D400 will almost certainly feature 1080p video to follow the recent trend of Nikon DSLRs.  Hopefully, the D400 will avoid the cumbersome aperture adjustment problem that made the Nikon D7000 more frustrating for video capture.

If you want to update your Nikon, firmware updates are available for download on Nikon’s website. While it would be nice to get your hands on one of those nice shiny new D700s, these firmware updates will enable your older D3s and D300s to keep up with those young whippersnappers.

Nikon D300 Review at Photoxels

Photoxels has posted a review of the Nikon D300.

You get superb handling, exceptional performance, a large, bright and clear optical viewfinder, a body sealed against dust and mositure, and excellent image quality with low noise and preserved detail up to ISO 800. Noise that is present at higher ISOs is Luminance noise and gives pictures a film-like grain appearance.

Nikon D300 Review at Digital Camera Info

Digital Camera Info has posted a review of the Nikon D300.

The autofocus system is straight off the pro Nikon D3 and is amazing. It has 51 points and is the fastest we’ve seen. The Nikon D300 is well suited for sports shooting with its 6 to 8 fps Burst mode (depending on whether the battery grip is attached), and quick predictive autofocus tracking.

Nikon D300 Review at Pocket-Lint

Pocket-Lint has posted a review of the 12.3 megapixel Nikon D300.

Noise, even at higher ISO is pretty much non-existent up to ISO 2000, beyond here noise is in there but it’s very subtle and even at the boosted ISO 4000 and 6400 settings it’s very clean indeed, in fact the best noise (or lack of noise) performance I’ve seen in a DSLR. Quite simply it is superb.
