DC Resource has posted a review of the Canon EOS Rebel XSi. The new Digital Rebel XSi kit comes with an stabilized 18-55mm lens. Canon’s entry-level DSLR now features a 3? rear LCD panel that’s capable of Live View framing and focusing.
Camera performance is top-notch. The Rebel XSi is ready to go as soon as you hit the power switch, though you may want to wait the two seconds for its dust reduction cycle to finish.

DigiCam Review has posted a review of the Canon Powershot A590 IS.
Image quality is good – with excellent colour, with high levels of saturation, contrast and detail. Noise is higher than average compared to the competition, but is low up to ISO400 and detail is good.

Trusted Reviews has posted a review of the Canon PowerShot A470.
Despite its very low cost the Canon PowerShot A470 acquits itself well. The build quality could be better, the control layout has a couple of major problems and it’s a lot larger and heavier than it really needs to be, but it makes up for these faults with extremely fast performance, excellent autofocus especially in low light, and even pretty good image quality, although it does have a few problems in this area. In general though the A470 is a genuine bargain and you won’t find much better for the price.

Luminous Landscape has posted a review of the Canon Rebel XSi. The new Digital Rebel XSi kit comes with an stabilized 18-55mm lens. Canon’s entry-level DSLR now features a 3? rear LCD panel that’s capable of Live View framing and focusing.
As we have seen, image quality (at least within its ISO range) is on a par with anything else on the market, and better than most in this price range.

The rumor mill is in full swing after the announcement of the Nikon D700. A poster on DPR, claiming to have “inside” info has posted “spoiler” specs of the Canon 5D Mark II. With a big grain of salt in hand, take a look at the following info:
– Will be announced Monday, September 8, 2008
– MSRP: $2,399.95 (SSP: $2,199.95), body only
– 16MP FF sensor
– 6 FPS
– Max ISO 25,600 (for what it’s worth…it’s more for marketing)
– Full weather sealing– VGA-resolution display (from same supplier Sony uses for their new Handycams, except in 4:3 aspect ratio here)
– Pop-up flash
– Anti-dust features
– NO Live View
– NO pro AF from 1D (although all points are cross-type)
– NO video mode whatsoever (silliest rumor I’ve ever heard)
– NO compatibility with EF-S lenses (physically impossible anyway)
– NO electronic crop mode for faster shot rate
– NO HDMI-out
– NO UDMA CF supportAs you can see, it’s by no means ground-breaking. It’s not going to out-do the Nikon D700 in performance or features (although overall IQ will be very close or indistinguishable). But it will be significantly cheaper. It’s aimed at the more “manual” shooter.
Original 5D will continue to be sold at $1,799.95 (SSP) without any rebates until stock is depleted.

Photograview is a site that focuses on interviewing great photographers and this week, they caught up with Thomas Hawk. Thomas is a prolific photographer — his Flickr account boasts just over 14,000 beautifully executed shots. He’s also the CEO of Zooomr, a good alternative for photo hosting.
What truly intrigued me about the interview, though, is the equipment Thomas uses:
Currently I own two digital camera bodies, a Canon EOS 5D and a Canon EOS 10D. I also own 5 Canon L Series lenses, the 135 f/2 (my favorite lens), the 24 f/1.4, the 14 f/2.8, the 50 f/1.2 and the 70-200 f/4. In addition to these lenses I own the Canon EF100 macro. I also own various accessories to go with this Canon setup, Speedlite, batteries, CF cards, card readers, tripods, etc.
When it comes to digital photography, I have to agree with Thomas’ buying habits. Canons are good cameras. Now to work on getting the same quality of image out of my photos as he gets out of his.

In keeping with the 18-month life cycle of its consumer DSLRs, Canon announced the 12.2 megapixel EOS Rebel XSi on January 24, 2008 just prior to PMA. Canon also kept the tradition of upgrading the Rebel series by a couple of megapixels, which it has done with every generation since the original EOS Digital Rebel debuted in 2003 at 6.3MP. For your reference, the Rebel XT weighed in at 8MP and the Rebel XTi touted 10.1MP.
The Canon Rebel XSi packs in a number of upgrades from the previous DSLRs in this line. In fact, the XSi packs in so many advanced features that it’s almost hard to call it an entry-level camera anymore. [Read more…]

PhotographyBLOG has posted a review of the Canon Powershot A590 IS.
Also, for a model aimed at beginners, features are surprisingly comprehensive, its response times – save for that rather sluggish zoom – pretty good, and it’s nice to see true optical image stabilisation included as standard on a camera that costs what it does.
