Rumors of a high megapixel DSLR from Canon have really been heating up since the 1D X launched with “only” 18.1MP. The rumors persisted after the 5D Mark III rolled in at roughly the same resolution as its predecessor.
Now comes a spec list from Canon Rumors for a Canon EOS 3D rumored to weigh in at a whopping 46MP . . . that’s 10MP more than the current resolution king – the Nikon D800.
Canon EOS 3D Spec Rumors
- 46 MP
- 3.7 frame per second
- Dual DIGIC 5+
- ISO: (25) 50-6400 (12800)
- AF: Same as 1DX
- USB 3
Even though I used to joke about cameras with resolution at 40MP, Canon has plenty more room to work with on a full frame image sensor given that it developed a 120MP APS-H sensor more than two years ago. And we just thought the megapixel wars were over . . . .
Who would pick up a 46MP Canon DSLR? What price would you be willing to pay for this camera?
A tipster recently sent me word that the Canon 5D Mark II would remain in Canon’s lineup in the near future. However, another new DSLR model would be released soon (instead of a 5D Mark III) and would be a step-up from the 5D Mark II. [click to continue…]
Rumors of a Canon EOS 3D have been around since the original Canon 5D was released (maybe before it was released). The film-based EOS 3 was a very popular camera, and still brings a decent penny in good, used condition. Canon Rumors received a tip from a confidential source yesterday that brings a bit of a resurgence to the fabled EOS 3D.
I’ve been told, that the EOS 3D is coming. My source sad to me it will be announced after the replacement from the Nikon D300. It is going to be something between the 1D MarkIII and the 50D/60D. The Body is similar to the 5D MarkII. He won´t me to tell something about the specs but said that the D300/D400 will be blown away.
Aside from the totally bogus image above (that’s been floating around the blogosphere and forum world for a couple of years), there’s really no support for such a rumor over the past couple of years that Canon gear heads have been pining for this camera.
Frankly, it seems a bit of an ill fit in Canon’s current lineup. The camera would presumably be situated between the Canon 5D Mark II and 1D/1Ds models. That’s really just spreading the top end of cameras a little too thin.
Enough of my commentary . . . What do you think? Is there a place for a Canon 3D? What’s the price point need to be for you to buy one?
The clamor for a digital version of the popular Canon EOS 3 film camera has been around for quite a while. It has continued to grow over the past 2.5 years that the Canon 5D has been around. Leading up to PMA 2008, rumors of a 5D Mark II also brought more speculation of the fabled Canon 3D. I’m not saying that a 3D is coming at PMA or anytime for that matter. However, there have been enough rumors floating around that I’ve decided to set up a dedicated page to follow the Canon 3D.
For now, have a look at this recent rumor for the 15MP full frame 3D:
15.1 MP (full frame)
1 Digic III
Iso 100 to 6400(up to 12800)
AF like 1Dmk III
3 inch screen
A sort of smaller 1D body, with integrated grip but not rear lcd panel
1 slot flash card
Additionally, more recent rumors suggest a step up from the 40D (not quite 5D level specs) may appear at PMA. Whether this would be the 3D remains to be seen; however, based on Canon’s prior model history, the 3D should be reside in between the 5D and the 1-series. If this rumor is true, then it would more than likely be something more like the Canon 7D. (Read More)
