Samsung Galaxy Camera Hands-On

Samsung Galaxy Camera

I had my first chance to go hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy Camera at PhotoPlus 2012.  For those unfamiliar with the new camera, it is an Android-powered hybrid of a camera that is somewhere between a point and shoot camera and a smartphone. The Galaxy Camera runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and all of the camera functions are built-in the Android system. [Read more...]

Canon 7D Mark II Rumors Heating Up, Possibly Due in Jan. 2013

Canon 7D Mark II

Northlight Images received word that a Canon 7D Mark II is in the works for early 2013 – possibly at or around CES 2013.    Rumored specs for the 7D Mark II include a frame rate of 10fps and an APS-C sensor of “no more” than 25MP.

Additionally, the current 7D may remain in the lineup (with a price drop) in lieu of a 70D to serve as a replacement for the 60D.

New Samsung NX-R and NX300 Mirrorless Cameras Leak Out

Product Listing From Samsung's Website

After earlier rumors of Android-powered mirrorless cameras from Samsung, a couple of the rumored model numbers (the NX-R and NX300) showed up on Samsung’s website.

As those earlier rumors indicated, the NX-R is expected to follow the design of the Samsung NX20 with the upgrade to Android OS.  And the NX300 is believed to be an Android-powered successor to the Samsung NX210 and should add a new optional EVF and OVF to the design. [Read more...]

Samsung Adding Android OS to Mirrorless Cameras

Samsung NX Camera Android Rumors

Samsung dropped what looks to be a pretty exciting camera with its Galaxy Camera last month, which is a heavy duty Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-powered point and shoot.  In it, the camera is not just one of the features, it’s the whole point of the device – something that looks to become a serious trend.

Even with manufacturers that aren’t putting a full-on Android OS inside, we’re seeing a more app-like environment that extends beyond normal camera settings and mode selections (e.g., Sony’s new Apps in NEX models and the Canon 6D‘s built-in WiFi with sharing to iOS and Android devices).  So it should come at no surprise that Samsung is expected to build (at least some) future NX mirrorless cameras around the Android OS. Samsung Galaxy S Camera Coming?

Samsung Galaxy S Camera

When Polaroid dropped its Android-based compact camera at CES 2012, we knew it was a sign of what was coming.  Honestly though, I didn’t think it would take as long to see an Android-powered camera from another manufacturer.  This month, however, Nikon introduced the Coolpix S800c compact camera that runs Android 2.3 under the hood.  I think we’re about to see an onslaught of these in the next few months – particularly at CES 2013.

The latest rumor of a non-phone Android-powered camera comes from Samsung.  The electronics giant (who just got spanked by Apple over patent infringements regarding Samsung’s popular smartphones’ similarity to the iPhone) may be putting together the “Samsung Galaxy S Camera.” [Read more...]
