Canon has submitted a patent application for three fast telephoto lenses with image stabilization. The patent application covers EF 85mm f/1.8 IS, 100mm f/2 IS and 135mm f/2.8 IS lenses. Canon has been adding IS to its mid-range line of lenses (like the EF 24mm f/2.8 IS and EF 28mm f/2.8 IS), along with rumors that other mid-range lenses like the 50mm f/1.4 are going to get image stabilization in a new version – perhaps as early as this year.
B&H has the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens for $749 (reg. $1049) after instant and mail-in rebates. The price of the lens is $899 in your cart and then you get another $150 rebate from Canon. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
The Pentax D FA MACRO 100mm f/2.8 WR lens features a weather-resistant construction, which works hand-in-hand with weather resistant DSLRs like the Pentax K-7.
The new lens will ship in January 2010 at an initial retail price of $849.95. Check availability on Amazon.com.
