<description>&#60;p&#62;I am an amateur photographer who loves everything about photography. Recently, I&#38;#39;ve been thinking about getting a new computer and am pondering whether to go with a PC or a Mac. I&#38;#39;ve always grown up using PCs and am pretty tech-savvy. Especially with computers. Although I&#38;#39;m very comfortable with PCs, I&#38;#39;ve been itching to try my luck at Macs, especially because of their emphasis on media and arts (photography). Additionally,  I&#38;#39;m tired of dealing with slow PCs that are prone to crashing while I&#38;#39;m editing my photos. Do you prefer either/or? If so, why? I know it&#38;#39;s a personal choice but I would enjoy reading an article about this topic on here as well as hearing different responses from the Photography Bay community.&#60;/p&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;Recently aquiring a Sony Movira MVC-FD33 Digital Camera in mint condition I am having trouble turning it on!&#60;br /&#62;
With a fully charged NP F550 battery fitted the camera works perfectly, showing the start up menu for a few enuseconds and then turns itself off!&#60;br /&#62;
Can any one suggest why, and how to cure the fault, if fault it is!&#60;br /&#62;

Problems I am experiencing;&#60;br /&#62;
I am shooting through a thick glass, so there is a bit of ghosting in specific areas.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The camera auto settings are causing white balance issues and bleaching / too much darkening over the course of a day.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;due to my batch processing, i have to delete the photo before reposting the new one. a 2 second delay between picture posts can be noticed if you hit refresh at the right time.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;-----------------------------------&#60;br /&#62;
Benefits of this format;&#60;br /&#62;
In my opinion it seems to be better than normal webcam updates. With unlimited bandwidth you can technically post a 20 megapixel image of ____ at intervals on the fly.

<description>&#60;p&#62;We have several Nikon lenses for our Nikon film camera (for the life of me I can&#38;#39;t remember the model now). Ihave been told the film lenses will not work with the dSLR cameras.  Is that true?  We were thinking of the conversion over&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;If they will not work from the film to dSLR, how would one trade them ??  &#60;/p&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;Does anyone know of anyone who does inexpensive data retrieval. We did Scanrite twice and it pulled up nothing. It ran the software for a whole month, read data, then when we went to view the data it was reading, there were no images to speak of.  &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Western Dig. will send it out to forensic retreival for 2K. Everyone else is around 500 - 4K!  I don&#38;#39;t have ANY of that kind of money. My husb. and 1, between us both have 1 job.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Can anyone help?&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The CF cards have been formated and reformatted and used and used and I tried using Scan Disk retrieval software and pulled off 3 images, the rest were damaged or simply  not there.&#60;/p&#62;

&#60;p&#62;I have 500 GB of images which I was backing up, and it dropped on the floor and damaged the hard drive.&#60;/p&#62;

&#60;p&#62;Earlier this year, ASMP published a statement expressing concerns about the class action settlement between authors, publishers and Google, and indicated its intention to file objections. Since that time, the four professional associations have joined forces, working together to oppose the settlement which excludes photographers and graphic artists from millions of dollars in payment, as well as from participation in future revenues to be generated by Google under the proposed settlement. ASMP Executive Director Eugene Mopsik said, “ASMP believes that the proposed settlement has far-reaching consequences for the work product and livelihoods of creators of visual images. Through this filing, we hope to stop a settlement that would hurt our members and those of our sister organizations, and to participate in obtaining a fair and equitable solution.”According to the filing, the Proposed Settlement purports to serve both the public interest and the interests of the class members as well as Google, but it would, in fact, serve the financial interests of only a select few while irrevocably damaging the interests of others. &#60;p&#62;The VCC Pro is a breakthrough because it does the only thing DSLR’s can’t do -- technical movements. This allows professional photographers to handle technical movements ranging from tabletop shooting to landscape photography.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;“Technical movements are important in a digital SLR since bellows functions are one of the major attractions of large format photography,” stated Richard Dischler, President of DSM.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Compact and lightweight, the new Horseman camera converter comes in models for Nikon and Canon Digital SLR’s. Both VCC models accept a wide variety of lenses and control depth of field and perspective, as well as utilize digital image stitching.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Since the VCC is on revolving mount, you can easily switch between horizontal and vertical positions with a single turn of a knob. It can also be held or mounted on a tripod.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The VCC Pro gives the end user control of both the front and rear standard and allows them to use tilt, swing, shift, fall, rise and any combination to increase or reduce depth of field and to correct perspective distortions -- even at the widest aperture -- from architectural, table top, food and commercial work to photography in restricted spaces. The rear standard is used for stitching images together and allows 30mm vertical and 40mm horizontal movements by the use of an ultra precise spindle drive.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The VCC also provides four-frame stitching with a full size CCD or FX imager. This provides extremely high resolution image quality equivalent to that achieved by professional high end digital backs. Inaccuracies between successive pictures are held to an absolute minimum, making post-editing an easy task.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Getting the image “right and tight” on capture allows far more creativity for the photographer. All additional software applications now can work far more effortlessly and creatively providing a true workflow solution. You insist on high dynamic range, which is generally best in high-end DSLRs. Which contradicts your sensitivity to price. My suggestion: get a used camera, such as a Canon 5D. It is renowned for the quality of its RAW files, for its DR, for the ability one has to push the files in post processing. As you are already a Canon user, that might let you use some of your existing lenses, thus contributing to contain price. With the 5D you get absolutely top-notch IQ, even if the bells and whistles of the camera itself are obsolete. And no LiveView.&#60;br /&#62;
If you are reluctant to go with a used cam, or if LiveView is a must, try to get one of the last Canon 40D. A perfectly good prosumer body, which many rate as having better DR as its successor 50D. And it being discontinued means that the street price offers great VFM.&#60;br /&#62;
If you want a current model, Canon 450D is the way I would go. A very good sensor in a lightweight body. Of course you don't get pro-grade everything in this inexpensive camera. But IQ for the money is very, very good.&#60;br /&#62;
Again, only Canon cameras in the hope that this saves you money on the lens side.&#60;br /&#62;

One option I liked about my D90 compared to D300, was the ability to view thumbnails sorted by date.  Suprisingly, this feature is missing in D300S.  I hope the firmware will add this back&#60;/p&#62;

The size and thickness of the Multi Selector and the OK button on the D300S is not as good as D90.

I make (at most) 18 x 24 enlargements from semi-cropped images.  I want a camera that will reproduce scenes in deep forests with deep shadows and brightly lit aeas.  Video is not wanted, but good, sharp images are. Live view, high dynamic range, a viewable histogram and RAW storage  are needed. And price is very important.

&#60;p&#62;There are lots of aftermarket ones available, but I prefer a quality brand, but they seem to be discontinued. Sigma unfortunately has some compatability issues.

&#60;p&#62;The Canon 24-105mm f/4 lens won't fit on your Nikon D700.  While you may be able to find an adapter for the mounts somewhere, you won't be able to achieve autofocus on you D700.  You need to be looking for a Nikon lens - something like the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 would be a good alternative.&#60;/p&#62;
