Those weird FCC labels on your electronic gadgets should be gone for good soon thanks to the bi-partisan E-Label Act, which was signed into law by President Obama last week.
The Act allows companies to meet the FCC’s certification labeling requirements by placing digital stamps in the software of the device rather than etching it on the hardware. That seems very doable for cameras; however, it is unclear whether lens manufacturers will be able to digitally embed those labels in a lens’ firmware.
While their appears to be no practical effect of the new law, at least it will keep manufacturers’ designs a little cleaner.
The most obvious beneficiaries will be smartphone and tablet manufacturers, which are generally light on external labeling anyway.

Oh thank you supreme leader, for another useless act, and I’ll revel in the fact my cameras of the future will be so much more efficient. Now, about that border?
