Not sure why they wouldn't just fix the current camera. This is like admitting the D600 has a huge issue worthy of an entire new camera, telling all D600 owners they are screwed and the cameras will never be fixed, and then entering a year late into the budget FF camera market with a camera that will do nothing more than drop the value of the D600 to the floor. At this point, I would not see any huge rush to by the D610 if all it does is fix an issue it never should have had. I returned my D600 after I noticed the dust and I'm sure glad I did.
Besides the new shutter, if Nikon wanted this camera to really take off in sales, putting the better pro AF system module that even the Nikon D7100 has (for a lower cost Nikon DX body), into the new D610 as another upgrade, would be enough for a much bigger increase in sales. Of course, more pros might then buy the D610 over the D800, so maybe Nikon would not want that to happen. With a pro level AF system upgrade to add, this could justify a bit of an increase in price for Nikon as well. Just saying, from my viewpoint ….
or Nikon, please design a D750 at 24MP (so Raw files are not as huge for event photographers who take 1000 photos in a day) in a totally pro body like D700/800, priced somewhere in the middle between D610 and D800 (maybe at $2500 to $2600 for D750), and this would certainly attract lots of sales to event photographers. Please give us more choices in FF.
I see new D800 bodies now around $2999. in my area in Toronto.
