EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS lens vs. Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD:
Tamron is almost half of the price of the current Canon 100-400mm and the picture quality is just as good or... better in some focal rang. Heavily back order by professionals everywhere till September tells the story by itself. 6 year Tamron warranty vs. 1 year Canon warranty.
EF 28-300mm vs. Tamron 28-300MM F/3.5-6.3 DI VC PZD Full Frame Lens:
Tamron 28-300MM VC PZD less than half of the price of the current Canon 28-300mm and the image quality (from my own copy at 70mm, 100mm & 200mm) is about 95+% center/90% mid/80% corner when compared with my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM both at f/6.3 on tripod without IS/VC and focus with Live View. Based on MTF chart, it should be much better than the current Canon 28-300mm L at 1/4 of the weight and also with weather sealed construction..
Even though Canon's IS is 3-4 stop, when holding the Tamron 28-300mm lens that is 1/4 of the weight of the Canon 28-300mm L or the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, due to the length and the weight reduction, I was able to hand held a 5D3 with Tamron 28-300mm VC PZD in a much stable way and allowed me to receive good amount of keepers at 1/30 second at 300mm under low light condition with VC on. Focus speed is about 96% of Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM in good lighting condition and 87% under low light. I will not give up the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM due to f/2.8, internal zoom for under rain weather usage and for special paid jobs; however, I will not be using it as often as before and have packed away the heaver and larger Canon 24-100mm f/4L USM kit lens for now. Unlike previous years, I am still painless after two days of shooting a charity bike tour event (often flat on side of the highway pavement) with the Tamron 28-300mm VC PZD and only used the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS II USM for about 20 minutes during the rain (and was very glad when the rain stopped). 6 year Tamron warranty vs. 1 year Canon warranty.
EF-S 18-300mm vs. 16-300MM F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD
I had the Canon EF-S 18-200mm and was not impressed except at 200mm which it is the only focal length that is better than the Tamron 16-300MM F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD at 200mm ~ 300mm. It would be nice that Canon can make a 15-300mm (24mm-480mm) USM at the same or better image quality as the 15-85mm I had. Again, 6 year Tamron warranty vs. 1 year Canon warranty.
I am aware that Canon is the leader when it comes to sales in camera systems; however, at this moment they do not look like they a leader in trying to satisfying the consumer's budget and needs.
These are lenses I think Canon customers will be welling to pay 50% premium with 1 year warranty for:
EF 100-600mm f/4~f/5.6L IS II USM with Weather Sealed Construction
EF 24-300mm f/3.5-f/5.6L IS II USM with Weather Sealed Construction and in 24-100mm f/4L size
EF-S 15-300mm f3.5~5.6 IS II USM with Weather Sealed Construction
Just my thoughts ☺
Canon will deny anything new is even close to being launched until they are good and ready announce the product. Example when all the rumors about the 70d were floating around in May and June they said there was not a 70d about to be released(via email), which is how I wound up with a 60d(I really wanted the 70d for the wifi capabilities)
