New word that the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4-5.6L IS lens is getting an update points to a late-2013 or early-2014 production for the new lens. The current model's production will supposedly end soon.
I used to wait for the new version of this lens. But a decade is a bit too much for my patience. In the meantime Sigma released 120-300/2.8. Now I just wonder who on Earth would need 100-400/4-5.6? With 1.4x or 2x teleconverters this sigma can be turned into respectively 170-420/4 and 240-600/5.6! Unless Canon will ask less than $2000 for this lens I don't see why someone would buy it. I'd personally still go for Sigma even if Canon's new 100-400 will cost only $1500.
