Recent rumors and tips suggest that Canon is putting the final touches on the Canon 7D successor with an official announcement planned ahead of Photokina 2014. Preproduction models of the camera are believed to be planned for use during the World Cup in Brazil, which starts on June 12.
Recently, some rumors have suggested…
Spec 1 is interesting, though for many users the video is indeed an unused feature set. Sooner have a cheaper and better featured fully dedicated stills camera. Spec 2 isn't worth upgrading from my current 7D. If that is it from Canon I may look again at switching to Nikon, particularly now my 5D Mk II is showing its age too, the Mk III has nothing to draw me..
Canon needs to do SOMETHING for the "budget" 4K market before they are shut out of the game. Unlike 3D, which was never going to take off on a large scale, sitting idly on 4K and resting on the CineAlta-style prices isn't a long term solution for success AND putting gear in the hands of the masses. People will pay money for features they want, but being taken advantage of isn't going to work in this market. A $4k 4K solution should be the target, but I have a hard time believing that will ever come from Canon. If Sony updated their FS100 line and priced to sell, they could win the market - even over the GH4.
