One of the things I wanted to do during my review of the Sony A7 and A7R was to put the video features through their paces. With the help of my uncharacteristically cooperative kids, I shot the above short, Nerfed, in a few hours using only the Sony A7 and A7R…

Eric, seems like you and the kids had great fun making the video. Nice job!
I believe this camera is the best option (or the only?) if someone still has a few old lenses from old film cameras from leica M through Nikon F-mount.

Sorry, but there is no part in the video which is really sharp. Bokeh is very nice, but basic sharpness lacks everywhere, despite good lenses being used. I viewed full-screen at 1080p

Almost this whole report is about the cameras ability to shoot video. I would have liked to see a reference to the difference between the A7 and AR7 addressing for example, the AR7 autofocus speed due to its 36 pixels when compared with the A7's 24 pixels chip.

Thanks for the comment Michael.

This post isn't a review.

I'll cover that AF and other differences between the two cameras in the full review, which should be published in the next couple weeks.

Eric,
Your take on the video answers many of my questions about these new cameras and how they might fit into our production company's future shoots. I've been rooting for Sony ever since their early involvement in Zoetrope Studios. We are always looking for compact, capable equipment to make our shoots easier and aesthetically satisfying. Maybe the new A series can be an answer.
