Finding the Sweet Spot
The following post is by Ontario-based photographer, Steve Richardson, who explains how to find the “sweet spot” of your lenses. Learn more about Steve at the end of this post.
First let me say a special thanks for Eric Reagan for the opportunity to share with the Photography Bay community!
The focus (no pun intended!) of this article is how to find the “sweet spot” of a lens. The sweet spot refers to the aperture setting of a given lens that yields the best overall sharpness from the center to the edges. Most good quality lenses will give you good sharpness at the center regardless of what aperture you use, but for the best edge-to-edge sharpness we need to dig a little deeper. [Read more…]

Compatible Lenses for Nikon D40, D60, D3200, D3300, D5300, D5500
Users of the Nikon D40 through Nikon D5500 cameras are probably aware of the fact that these cameras cannot autofocus with all Nikon-compatible lenses. These cameras lack a built-in autofocus motor and, therefore, must rely on the motors inside the lenses in order achieve autofocus.
Since the introduction of the D40, Nikon has shown a commitment to making lenses that are compatible with all its DSLRs by putting autofocus motors inside. The cameras listed below all share the same AF motor characteristics and, therefore, need the appropriate lenses:
- Nikon D40
- Nikon D40x
- Nikon D60
- Nikon D3000
- Nikon D3100
- Nikon D3200
- Nikon D3300
- Nikon D3400 (latest model)
- Nikon D5000
- Nikon D5100
- Nikon D5200
- Nikon D5300
- Nikon D5500
- Nikon D5600 (latest model)
The following list contains those current lenses from Nikon and will be amended as new, compatible lenses are introduced. [Read more…]
Lens Picks for the Micro Four Thirds System
After reading the article on how the Micro Four Thirds cameras can become an entire system, one may really try to decide on which lenses will be best for them. With such a large selection available, it can be hard to decide which ones may suit you the best if you’ve just stuck with one camera system to begin with and never had much experience with others. That being said, the following letter came in from a reader.
