It looks like Canon’s upcoming 4K video camera was revealed at an official Canon event somewhere in Asia. The images show a camera that looks similar to DSLR but with a fixed lens. Notably, it is much smaller than Canon’s EOS C100 and other current cinema cameras.
The camera has a 1″ sensor and a 10x optical zoom with a 8.9-89mm f/2.8-5.6 lens, which works out to a 24-240mm equivalent zoom range. It also includes built-in WiFi, an electronic viewfinder and a rear LCD.
We have previously seen rumors of a 4K video camera for $2500 or less due this spring and recently viewed a patent for a video lens applied to a 1″ sensor camera.
The most likely official US announcement time frame for this new 4K camera is at NAB 2015 in a couple weeks.
Stay tuned.

I wonder if canon hopes to split off things so that ppl have to choose a DSLR for either stills or video & will need both eventually? Other than price getting driven up I wouldn’t care. Video is a logical & handy tool but not a necessary function for my type of use.
Seems odd though to make what looks like a DSLR be only for video. I hate when companies cripple functions that could be included at little or no extra cost (Canon).

Knowing Canon that will be exactly what they are thinking but luckily we have multiple other camera manufactures that will give us good photography and good videography in one body for a reasonable price, Samsung’s NX1 being one of my favourite, just needs more lenses.

Canon development is much too slow… this ‘new’ camera is already available as my Panasonic FZ1000. But this very nice Lumix model outclasses it totally with 20x zoom (2.8 to 4.0…)

my recent shots of swans in love at
is a good example of the capabilities of the Lumix FZ1000… I used 4K recording (the 400 mm lens is cropped to 600mm while recording in 4K.- which is ideal for outdoorshots).
Image yourself hiking in nature with only the weight of this small cam and a light tripod… thats my (almost) daily reality…
