NAB is just over a week away and there have been no reliable rumors or leaks of new cameras from Canon yet. It’s looking like we won’t see a new Canon EOS Cinema camera at NAB 2014. However, a new screenshot has surfaced showing off what appears to be a new lens for the Canon EOS Cinema line – this one with a servo zoom ring.
While rumors claim this lens is for the EOS line, note that the lens barrel seems awfully small for a APS-C format sensor. It actually looks closer in size to match Canon’s existing line of lenses for 2/3″ sensor ENG/EFP cameras. Notably though, the red ring near the lens mount is a dead giveaway for the Canon EOS Cinema lens line.
Whichever camera it is designed for, don’t expect it to come in cheap. Similar lens designs for 2/3″ sensors can run upward of $82k. And, given the price of current EOS Cinema zoom lenses (like the CN-E 30-300mm at $44k), expect any servo zoom lens for the EOS Cinema line to be in the stratosphere.
