Canon 5D Mark III Firmware Update Version 1.2.3

Canon 5D Mark III EF 24-70mm f4L IS USM Kit

Canon has issued firmware update for the 5D Mark III. Firmware Version 1.2.3 incorporates the following improvements and fixes.

  1. Fixes a phenomenon in which the flash may not fire depending on the timing of when the shutter button is pressed.
  2. Fixes a phenomenon in which the AF microadjustment value may change.*
  3. Fixes a phenomenon in which the LCD monitor may show a line of false color along boundaries of high contrast.
  4. Fixes a phenomenon in which the histogram of a LiveView image is incorrectly displayed when an HDMI cable is connected.
  5. Enables the brightness of the camera’s LCD monitor to be adjusted even when an HDMI cable is connected.

*The phenomenon listed in 2 was addressed with Firmware Version 1.2.1, and has been further improved with Firmware Version 1.2.3.

    * So what you are saying Canon is that, like your repairs, you couldn’t get it right the first time.

    I am glad that Canon is providing fix patches for their cameras. I was also hoping they will provide a more significant update like the one for the 1Dx and not the “Hi 5D3 user, we know they have many the same features (eg. autofocus system) but look at this little cookie we have for you so you can stop looking at the big cake that the 1Dx user are getting… yes it is all fare because you pay less!” kind of firmware. I believe you can do better than that, Canon.
