Leica has taken the official wraps off of its ‘Mini M’ teaser campaign and introduced to the world the Leica X Vario.
As previous rumors and leaks indicated, the Leica X Vario is an APS-C camera with a fixed zoom lens, which offers an 18-46mm zoom and f/3.5-6.4 variable aperture. Additionally, the camera features a 16.1MP sensor and captures 1080p HD video. The camera features a 3-inch 920k-dot resolution LCD monitor and offers no built-in viewfinder – although a separate EVF will be available for purchase.
The Leica X Vario has a sensitivity range of ISO 100-12500, a built-in flash and hot show, and is a solid aluminum/magnesium body. The X Vario is available in the US for a price of $2,850 and can be found here at B&H Photo.

Yawn… This new offering from Leica is quite a disappointment. Rich people everywhere will rejoice, though, I’m sure.

How do they get away with putting such a slow lens on that. Even if I had that money burning a hole in my pocket, I wouldn’t buy it. I like the camera but not with that lens.

Agreed… You can get a Canon Rebel Series (or Nikon DXX00 Series) with the kit 3.5-5.6 lens for 1/6 the money. I’m really surprised Leica did this.

Sure makes the Fuji X20 look good at a quarter of the price – or any of another half dozen or so by Canon, Nikon, Sony, Ricoh, samsung or others. Evidently “made in Germany” ain’t what it
used to be. But then, if you have more money than brains, you’ll at least get the “red dot”.

LEICA X1, 2 comming back, soon, with Mini/ZooM/ version, os sort of funny.
In short: M5, ME. and this MMini and those on all X’s with colour models are complete mistakes.
