Canon Rumors has a tip that a new superzoom lens could be coming to the EF-S mount in the form of an 18-300 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM model, which should serve as a replacement to the EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS model.
The lens should get the new STM motor found in the 40mm f/2.8 STM and 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM models. Having used both of these lenses, I would welcome the addition of a STM-equipped superzoom model. The 18-135mm STM lens proved surprisingly snappy with AF speed and acquisition in my experience with it.
Along with an EF-S superzoom, there is also word that a new superzoom for the EF mount could show up as well – and be a bit more affordable and less bulky than the current EF 28-300mmL superzoom in Canon’s lineup. Availability on these lenses, however, is rumored to be in the second half of 2013.
Are these lenses that you are looking for? Or, do the current lenses in Canon’s lineup meet your needs?
What’s the ideal zoom range and price points for Canon superzoom lenses?

Too bad this rumored lens isn’t an EF w/ the STM drive, so it could work on full-framers also. A high quality 28-300 “L” lens that isn’t a ship anchor would also be appreciated. I have the current “L” version & a TAMRON 28-300 “IS”. For much shooting, I use the TAMRON simply because it’s far lighter & more convenient. Whether attached to the 1N, 1V, 5D Mk II or 7D, it’s a pleasure to use. Can’t say the same for the CANON “L”…. it’s TOO heavy!!
Would really like to see an updated 100-400 also, especially a lighter “L” variation. With the resin technology current, I see no reason why a stable, light composite material can’t be used to form the outer barrels of all these lenses. It can’t be the cost of the material because CANON’s lenses are getting VERY PRICEY across the board!!!
