Amazon Class 10 SDHC Card

Amazon has its Class 10 SDHC cards discounted through October 2.  The discounts range from marginal to substantial; however, all of the prices are still good deals. For example, the 16GB cards are currently $23.49 and the 8GB cards are $10.34.  Complete details here at Amazon.com.

I’ve never used the Amazon Basics-branded cards before, but the ratings from users show that they are mostly well-regarded.  Here is one detailed review that looks at speed comparisons among Amazon and Transcend Class 10 cards and show that these Amazon Basics cards perform quite well.

The Class 10 rating is a rating intended for evaluating video capture performance.  In this case, Class 10 is the fastest rating currently available for video performance, which means these will work with just about every HD video camera on the market today.  For a more detailed explanation of SDHC card classes and speed ratings, check out my prior article on Demystifying SD Cards.

Sounds good, eh? [click to continue…]

Check out the above view of Earth from the International Space Station at night.  I was surprised to see how much area that a lightning strike covered with its glow.  I couldn’t find any info about which camera was used to capture these images, but it would make sense that it’s a Nikon D3s or other Nikon body since the raw images were sourced from NASA.

Ricoh KR-5 Super II

Ricoh’s president was recently quoted saying that “Ricoh will offer characteristic compact cameras under its own label, while trying to bring the Pentax brand on par with Nikon Corp. and Canon Inc. in interchangeable-lens cameras.”  While we have no specs or details on what the camera will be like, the source article notes that it would not necessarily be an expansion of the recently-announced Pentax Q system, but rather a more prosumer offering with a larger image sensor.

Of course, the Pentax reference comes from recent news that Ricoh is acquiring the company, effective October 1.
