After winning Best Picture Grand Jury Prize and Best Actress Special Jury Prize at Sundance last year AND being picked up by Paramount for a cool $4 million, ‘Like Crazy’ is on its way to the box office this Fall. It was shot on a Canon 7D – a camera you can buy for around $1600.
Check out the trailer below.
Just a few months after ‘Like Crazy’ premieres, we’re going to see the Canon 5D-shot film ‘Act of Valor‘ hit the big screen. After being picked up for $13 million by Relativity Media, ‘Act of Valor’ (on which HDSLR-evangelist Shane Hurlbut served as DP) is scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 17, 2012.
I continue to be amazed at the accessibility and power of cameras that are now available to virtually everyone. We’re seeing these cheap cameras shoot alongside, and sometimes in place of, quarter-million dollar cameras.
Expect to see a lot more films shot with the 5D Mark II, 7D and other HDSLRs make it to the big screen. The ability to creatively and visually tell a story is no longer limited to big studios and big budgets. These HDSLRs have really kicked in the door for democratizing filmmaking. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

What is next has got to be a game changing and interesting move no mater what it is. The new way of film making is a whole new creature all together.
