While WWDC 2011 would have been a fitting time to launch Final Cut Pro X, Apple failed to do so.  According to the info we got from Apple at the sneak peek back in April, Final Cut Pro X is due to arrive in the Mac App Store this month.  Since the teaser though, it’s been all crickets from the mothership. Regardless of your current skill level, you have probably used the little green square mode on a camera at some point. This green square (or little green camera) mode is commonly referred to as the full auto shooting mode.

Many times, when you are shooting in this mode, you get great photos.  Other times though, your images don’t quite come out the way you envisioned them when looking through the viewfinder.  Maybe they are too dark on a person’s face, maybe the thing you want to be in focus is out of focus, or maybe the colors just don’t look right.

That’s what happens when you give control to a dumb box.  That’s right.  Your camera is dumb – especially when it’s in the little green square mode.  [click to continue…]

The Fuji X100 has a crazy-high flash sync speed thanks to its 4-leaf shutter.  The Strobist crowd is really going to dig this thing.  Talk about killing the Sun…

‘Act of Valor’ is a film that I’ve heard a lot about over the past couple of years from cinematographer Shane Hurlbut, who has been a big proponent of Canon HDSLRs.  He’s been talking about how they used the 5D Mark II to get shots they couldn’t otherwise get – using Zeiss lenses and helmet cams for a unique combination of shooting rigs.

The film is looking to be a pretty big deal for Hurlbut and Bandito Brothers. Relativity Media announced today that it picked up worldwide marketing and distribution rights for a $13-million guarantee. [click to continue…]
