Just got word on the lingering Samsung NX11, which was announced in December 2010 with an anticipated release date of February 2011. After checking it out at CES 2011 and posting a hands-on review, I’ve been waiting and waiting for it to show up at B&H Photo, Adorama and Amazon.
But those retailers don’t even have a product listing for the camera yet – a bit odd for a camera that was supposed to be out last month.
The word from those in the know is that the launch strategy for the NX11 has changed since its announcement. It should be coming to the US. I’ve been told mid-April is the anticipated time frame; however, it will likely only find its way to a few select retailers.
I have also been informed that the next iteration of NX models are “the ones to keep an eye on.” While the NX11 is a bit of an upgrade to the NX10, it’s nothing that’s going to make NX10 owners jump on the NX11.
The NX10 was a decent start for Samsung in the mirrorless market, and the NX100 is a nice step toward building the system. So, we’ll see how the next generation of NX cameras measure up – hopefully sooner rather than later.
