Firmware Friday brings up a question that has been nagging me for some time.

If you have a dSLR and it appears to be working just fine is there any reason to perform a firmware update? I mean, if additional functionality was coming through I could see it, but if it’s simply for bug fixes and you haven’t encountered said bug, should one bother?

I’ve been known to lapse on firmware updates. While I notice when there are updates, if the updated functions are not terribly relevant, I’m not really in a hurry to update. That’s just me though.

That pretty much sums up how I feel about it.

Now if the manufacturers could find a way to update our older dSLRs to newer ones with a firmware update (of sorts), that is technology I would get behind!

I just bought the Olympus XZ-1 and was wondering if anyone can tell me how to find the firmware version on my new camera? I tried googling but have not had any luck in finding answers so hopefully someone here can help me!

Also, is it necessary to update to this version 1.1?

    Thank you so much!
