Dan - It's slow compared to a DSLR; however, catching a moving 2-year-old may present a challenge for the E-PL1.

Eric, thanks for the review.

I'm looking to upgrade from a regular point and shoot, I like the combination of image quality that approaches that of DSLR, along with HD video and relatively compact size. However I am concerned by the references here and elsewhere to the slow focus speed, I have a two year old! Can you clarify whether its slow generally or slow compared to DSLR, I think I could live with it provided that its better than a regular middle of the road compact?

Nice to hear back from you Eric. Looking forward to reading/discovering more on the topic.

By the way, is there anyway for you to implement an automated reply notification typ'a system in the comment zone? That'd be tremendous.

@Albert - Your point is well taken; however, the E-PL1 definitely has a smaller feel to it in my opinion. The E-P2 just feels like I'm hefting more camera. I hadn't looked at the actual spec measurements side by side until you pointed them out, and I'm a little surprised that the E-PL1 is only about quarter inch narrower than the others.

Hopefully, I'll get some quality time with the E-PL1 soon; however, I can't give you a specific date when the review will be published.

Thanks for the comment.

Interesting preview Eric.

I'd just like to point out that the "smaller size" you refer to doesn't appear to be *that* small, whether it be in your comparative pictures, or the specs on paper.

The EP1/2's specs: 121mm (W) x 70mm (H) x 36mm (D)

The E-PL1's specs: 115mm (W) x 72mm (H) x 42mm (D)

As such, I hardly believe that 2-6mm (about 0.2" or less) of difference in one axis or another can be considered a "huge benefit".

Quality wise, the images seem smudgy and lack much detail. This seems true at any ISO. Any idea if or when you'll be able to test the gear in a true controlled environment?

Cheers,
