Astana Team Time Trial by Eric Reagan

In sports and wildlife shooting, it’s all about getting that one particular moment that happens within a fraction of a second. Mastering the techniques to shooting sports will be able to help you progress as a photographer as those skills can be used in other forms such as photojournalism, weddings and street candids. My mentor, who has shot NY Knick games, has been kind enough to pass along some of his knowledge to me.

Here are 7 quick tips for those of you wanting to get better at shooting sports and fast action. Hint: You don’t need a camera that shoots 8fps like the Canon 7D, but it can help.

Ricoh CX2

Ricoh has released updated firmware for the Ricoh CX2 camera.  The new firmware addresses following issues:

1 With the step zoom ON, there may be rare occasions that the camera power will be off in zoom lever operation.

2 In Manual focus, if you enlarge the center part of the image in the screen, the enlarged part may become black-out rarely.

Not the Canon 1D Mark IV

Rumors of a Canon 1D Mark IV have been floating around since not too long after the criticisms of the autofocus performance for the Canon 1D Mark III came to light.  Rumors were swirling prior to the announcement of the Canon 7D that the 1D Mark IV might surface this Fall.  Those rumors have since died down.

As I’m sure you are aware though, when one rumor dies, there are plenty more ready to fill in the gaps.  The latest rumor is calling for a Canon 1D Mark IV announcement in early 2010 or around the “end of January” as one Canon Rumors tipster puts it. [click to continue…]

A couple of recent developments in the Canon 7D and 5D Mark II‘s resume make the camera shine a little brighter.  As we knew, the potential is huge with this camera and it continues to create a ton of buzz in the filmmaking world.
