Nikon VL1 – What if?

I’m not sure what to make of this.  A tipster pointed me to this Nikon VL1 speculation?  Reads like a wish list, yet an informed wish list…

This appears to be utter and complete speculation (so gearheads can click on through, others can move along now … nothing to see here); however, it’s still a nice thought.  What if?

The Think Tank Photo Airport Addicted V 2.0 is a professional quality camera bag that’s designed for serious travelers.  The Airport Addicted V 2.0 is big.  The size is intended to allow you to carry the maximum amount of gear possible on a plane as a legal carry-on.

The Airport Addicted V 2.0 has backpack straps that hide away behind velcro panels when not in use. Additionally, it has handles on the top and side to allow you to tote it with one hand for short distances.  It’s made of tough material that looks nice and professional too.  What I really like about the looks though is that it does not look like a camera bag.  It really looks like a typical black carry-on bag that will blend right in with all the other travelers out there.  Very unassuming. Photography often focuses on the camera, the lens, the artist’s eye—all very important. But there’s also the photographer’s technology infrastructure that is critical to his or her success and efficiency.

FiOS Internet

Today, digital photographers (amateurs or professionals) constantly share large files via their websites, e-mail, and social networks and these basic tasks require fast, reliable upload and download speeds. Typically, people focus on download speeds when selecting their internet service provider, but photographers should pay close attention to the upload speed. In fact, photographers opting for pure fiber to the home services, like Verizon FiOS, can share their work with clients, colleagues, and prospective customers up to 200% faster than is possible with cable internet. FiOS Internet boasts more bandwidth and faster speeds and is far more reliable than cable competitors (based on claims from Verizon). [click to continue…]

Fuji 3D Camera

Fuji is right on schedule for the release of its dual-lens 3D camera in September, which won’t require special glasses to “get” the 3D effect.  Time got some hands-on experience with a prototype of the new shooter and, overall, it looks pretty impressive.  One of the other interesting tidbits, is that Fuji is planning on launching a print service in order to make the special 3D prints available.  Again, no 3D glasses required.

Time also got word that the camera’s price should come in “around $600″ with the aforementioned 3D prints at $5 or less.  3D cameras have been tried before; however, the technological hurdles have never been as low as now.  Fuji could really be onto something here and we could be looking at the tip of a very large iceberg.

Motion blur results from a shutter speed that is slower than would otherwise be used to “freeze” action or movement.  Often times, a slower shutter speed is used when panning a camera with a moving subject and, as a result, the background is blurred because it is stationary.  In other events, the camera may be affixed to the moving object (e.g., inside a car), which also blurs a portion of the scene (e.g., the roadway and lights).  In some cases, it is the subject of the photo that is blurred due to movement – this works great with well lit subjects at night.

Motion blur, through the variety of techniques used to achieve this effect, is commonly used to convey a sense of speed, which is well-demonstrated in the following 7 photos.

Canon Spring / Summer Rebates Extended

While I have seen no official word from Canon on the matter, B&H Photo still has the rebates listed on the Canon Spring / Summer 2009 Lens Rebate offerings.  When you click on the link for rebate details, you see the above message pop up, which certainly seems to indicate that Canon has extended the rebate period until August 8, 2009.

If true, this is good news for all.  For those of you who thought they were going to miss out, you’ve got another month to hoard your pennies for a new Canon lens or flash. Here’s the full list of rebate gear from an earlier post.
