The D3 were rumored to have a sensor covering 95% of fullframe. Not quite right and rather stupid in retrospect.

Of course, I can always start a rumor about Nikon eventually releasing a new DSLR and that it will be black. That doesn’t mean it’s news.

@AK – I believe there were several rumors about the Nikon D3 that turned out to be quite accurate. Of course, they always get a little better as we get closer to launch, but it’s kind of hard to determine when that is, eh?

In the history of Life, the Universe and Everything NOT A SINGLE RUMOR about an upcoming Nikon camera have been correct.

So this is not “good news”, because it’s not news at all.

Nikon would not be shooting themselves in the foot at all. The money would still be coming in the front door, just for a new camera. Don’t get model share confused with market share. Nikon is in business to make money, not sell cameras.

Seems only the consumer falls in love with a particular model not the manufacturer who is only looking for a way to get more money in the coffers.

A ‘D10′ (FF D300-body) priced at around 3500$-4000$ would not kill either D3 or D300.
It would be nice to have it in the 2500$-3000$ range, but then again, dreaming is free :)

Sorry, I don’t buy it – at least not at this time.

Nikon would shoot themselves in the foot by releasing a camera like this – the D300 is simply too new. If it was placed “a spot above the D300″, it would kill the D300 AND the D3 stone dead – sales of the D300 would die because you’d get a FX sensor for litle more money, and nobody in their right mind would buy a D3 if they could get a FX sensor for that little money. It simply doesn’t make sense to me.

Also, to quote: “imagine if a D10 had the D300-type body with the D3 sensor”. Well, what you just imagined was a D3 with a removable vertical grip.
