Apparently, the focusing problem with the Canon 1D Mark III is not associated with a firmware problem, but rather a hardware issue:

Just a week and a half ago, I wrote about a couple of price drops on the Canon 5D, which left it at $2299. Now, it seems that the price has dropped again. The Canon 5D can currently be had for $2199 at Amazon, B&H Photo and Adorama.
