More info would help: are these JPEGs shot as JPEGs or as RAWs? Other camera settings? Processing done?

One commentator has made a useful distinction between noise properties of the sensor and noise \'management\' in camera. For those who use RAW exclusively, this distinction is important I think.

saved to destop and downrezed to 50% those are really usable. Think of it as a 6mp D100 able to deliver perfectly clean usable iso 6400 files!! The D300 should be fine for most use at iso1600 max res, maybe 3200 too, going by these impressive samples, if they\'re straight out of camera that is

Why there is no \'ISO Speed Ratings = 6400\' exif tag in the exif info like I have that exif tag on my nikon d80, or my older pana fz20 etc? Actually there is NO exif tag at all in this image which states it is shot at ISO6400. Rather looks like that ISO tag was removed with some exif editor.

I don\'t spend much time chimping exif data - is \"Gain = 2\" the Nikon way of saying ISO 6400?

This is certainly one great camera. I picked mine up on Friday and love it. I have started to post some of my sample images here. One thing that impresses me the most so far is the ability to focus well in low light situations.

    Sample here:
